Ede Thurrell originally studied with Vivian Tomlinson, Bess & Tibor Zana, and Judith Moss in Madison Wisconsin. After moving to New York, Ede attended Barnard College and was a special student at The Juilliard School. She has worked with choreographers Stanley Love, Greg Zuccolo, Glen Rumsey, Julie Atlas Muz, Liz Santoro, and Kraig Patterson, and performed a solo by Deborah Hay at the Whitney Museum of American Art. Thurrell has also worked on projects abroad with Boris Charmatz, Regine Chopinot, Robert Stejn, and Ann Crossett. In 2010, she won a highly competitive Dance WEB scholarship to Impulstanz in Vienna. Since 2008 she has been honored to assist her mentor, renowned ballet teacher Janet Panetta.
In addition to contemporary dance, Ede has performed in music videos and as a back-up dancer for artists such as Sasha Velour, Amanda Lepore, Zola Jesus, The Chrystal Ark, April March, and Madonna Impersonator Chris America! Ede can be found on youtube as Comedy Central’s “Succubus”. In 2011 she joined the opening cast of Absinthe at Ceasar’s Palace in Las Vegas, which won Best New Show and is still selling out today.
As a choreographer Thurrell has created numerous works for children, non-dancers and burlesque performers; including a TV commercial directed by Michel Gondry and a fashion show of Robert Rauschenberg’s costumes commissioned by the Merce Cunningham Dance Foundation, and supervised by Merce Cunningham.
Thurrell is currently a resident choreographer at the United Nations International School and for Angela DiCarlo’s Attention Deficit Disorder Cabaret which is selling out regularly at Joe’s Pub and the Bard College Spiegel Tent.
