Master Classes and Workshops

An inspiring and in-depth dance journey guided by world class guest artists.

Each mainstage season and during Kanopy’s Summer Intensives Kanopy invites premiere dancers and choreographers—leading voices in shaping Modern dance—to star in and collaborate on our productions. As part of their guest artist residency, they also offer a series of master classes and workshops that are held periodically throughout the year and are open to experienced dancers in our community and to our intermediate and advanced Kanopy Academy dancers.

In a changing rotation workshops and master classes are offered in the principal American Modern and Contemporary techniques of Martha Graham, José Limón, Merce Cunningham, Doris Humphrey, Charles Weidman, Anna Sokolow, Erick Hawkins, and Lester Horton, training in the European Physical Theater, as well as the work of emerging new choreographers.

Among the dance luminaries who have worked as artists in residence with Kanopy are: Tadej Brdnik, Colin Connor, Donlin Foreman, Samantha Geracht, Sandra Kaufmann, Lloyd Knight, Stanley Love, Martin Løfsnes, Miki Orihara, Lone Kjar Larsen, Virginie Mécène, Pascal Rioult; as well as Amit Lahav, Gecko Theatre and Steve Wasson & Corinne Soum, Theatre de l’Ange Fou and the International School of Corporeal Mime.
