Learn from Master Teacher and world acclaimed dance artist Lone Kjaer Larsen, former Dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company and currently head faculty and Program Director of the Martha Graham School in New York City. An internationally recognized teacher, she also is long time faculty at Marymount Manhattan College.

Students will have an accelerated in depth study in a Martha Graham Technique and Repertory and learn excerpts from Martha Graham’s masterworks. Informal time taken for Q&A about the artists, the choreography, being a dancer, careers in dance, college and conservatory study, and more. There will be an informal showing at the end of the week with Lone Kjaer Larsen, Kanopy Dance Company, Kanopy Company 2, and workshop students. Workshop students with permission from Kanopy Directors may observe afternoon rehearsal process with Kanopy Dance Company and guest artists.

LONE KJAER LARSEN holds an M.F.A. in Choreography from Jacksonville University and a B.F.A. in Dance from Boston Conservatory. She was a member of the Martha Graham Dance Company, Schauffuss International Theatre Ballet, and Pearl Lang Dance Theatre, where she danced as soloist for many years. She also performed in musicals and theatre productions, and has danced for a variety of modern and ballet choreographers nationally and internationally. Lone was a featured dancer in the Danish Television series “New Dance” and appears as dancer in the film “Halalabad Blues”. While working in Europe she co-founded and was Co-Artistic Director of Copenhagen’s BALLET PLUS, and from 2002-2005 she served as Rehearsal Director and Choreographic Assistant for the award winning Danish Dance Theatre.

Lone was certified as a teacher of Martha Graham Technique by Martha Graham herself in 1989 and has served on the faculty of the Martha Graham School ever since, teaching all levels of technique, repertoire, performance workshop and composition. Currently, she serves as Program Director at the Martha Graham School, and she is Regisseur for the Martha Graham organization, re-staging Martha Graham’s ballets for university dance programs. She also reconstructs and restages Pearl Lang’s choreography, as well as creates her own work, which has been presented by members of the Martha Graham Company, members of Graham 2, The Martha Graham School, Boston Conservatory Dance Theatre, Marymount Manhattan College Dance, Teatret Comedievognen, Ballet Plus, American College Dance Festival, Common Roots Project, Herlev Efterskole, among others.

An internationally recognized teacher, Lone has taught at L’École Rudra Béjart Lausanne, Danish National School of Performing Arts, Bartholin International Ballet Seminar, Congresso Brasilieiro de Danca Moderna in Brazil, Ballet Hispanico, the Ailey School, LaGuardia High School of Performing Arts, Henry Street Settlement, Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University, Oure Performing Arts School, Barnard College, Princeton University, amongst many others. She frequently leads Master Classes and residencies and conducts special workshops in Choreography and ‘Music Accompaniment for Dance’ both nationally and internationally, as well as awards scholarships to students to attend the Martha Graham School. In addition to teaching at the Martha Graham School, Lone is a long time faculty member of Marymount Manhattan College in New York City.
