Kanopy Dance Opens in Chicago at the “Trade Routes Invitational Dance Festival”

Kanopy Dance is honored to participate in Chicago’s Trade Routes dance festival as part of its ongoing artistic collaboration with Winifred Haun & Dancers. Organized by Links Hall, a nationally recognized artistic incubator and launch pad, Trade Routes selects five exceptional Chicago contemporary dance companies to stage the four-day festival that encourages dance innovation and cultural exchange.

A stunning showcase of acclaimed talent with national and international credits will be featured during the festival. There are ten performances spanning over three days. A pass for the entire Trade Routes festival is only $40. It’s a great opportunity to see fresh approaches in in contemporary and modern dance unfold on stage. And, it’s a fabulous reason for a holiday road trip and to see Chicago shine.

Winifred Haun & Dancers was one of five Chicago-based artists/companies nominated by a local or national presenter as the best of Chicago’s” home grown” in the 2016/17 performing arts season, and chosen by Links Hall to participate in Trade Routes. Presenters invited an out-of-town dance company with whom to partner for their performances and Winifred Haun & Dancers selected Kanopy Dance for its cutting edge reputation in the development of modern dance.

“Bluebeard Through the Looking-Glass Darkly”

August: Saturday 26, 2017 (4.30pm and 7pm), Sunday 27, 2017 (2.30pm)

Suggested Donation $15

Created and Directed by Steven Wasson and Corinne Soum.
Performed by Kanopy Dance Company, directors Lisa Thurrell and Robert Cleary.

Like all fairy tales, Blue Beard is an expression of the collective unconscious, and offers a possible understanding of universal patterns in the human psyche. It depicts the dance and the dynamics between the two grand archetypal forces, the masculine and the feminine. Using all the resources of modern movement theatre, Wasson and Soum are inventing for Kanopy Dance Company a voyage, punctuated by humor and derision, through the labyrinth of Bluebeard’s mind.

Following the success of “A Strange Day for Mister K.” and “Good Morning Mister K.”, this will be the third work created by the Theatre de l’Ange Fou for Kanopy Dance Company.
